Hyderabad, October 07: Consruction on four new electric crematoriums and remodelling of two outdated electrical crematorium in the twin cities is going to begin shortly. They will be built with the available modern technology.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has finalised contractors for establishing electrical furnace equipment and for civil works separately.
Constructions regarding to the civil works have been allotted to three different contractors while contract for electrical equipment will be established with Chennai based Essco Furnaces Private Limited. The remodelling and construction of crematoriums is being taken up following the directive of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who was particular that the crematoriums should be established with the available modern technologies at the earliest. The late Chief Minister was upset with the faulty functioning of the outdated electrical crematoriums at Bansilalpet and Amberpet resulting in hardship for the family of the deceased.
Apart from remodelling of Bansilalpet and Amberpet crematorium, they will have an additional crematorium, while Punjagutta and Sanjeevareddy Nagar will have new crematorium at the respective burial grounds at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore to Rs 6 crore.
Of the total amount, Rs 4.50 crore will be allocated for civil works while Rs 1.35 crore for electrical equipment.
Works are expected to be completed within six months.
GHMC officials told that Essco Furnaces Private Ltd designs, manufactures, erects and commissions crematorium furnaces like, electrical, LPG fired, wood gasified and traditional crematorium furnaces. The crematorium furnaces are incorporated with emission treatment system to make its function pollution free.
The electrical furnaces will be equipped with the latest technique of total combustion that will be carried out in the primary and secondary combustion chamber. It takes about one and half to two hours for the body to be burnt.
A few months ago, GHMC officials rushed to Chennai to study the functioning of different modes of crematoriums like electrical, LPG and gas crematoriums and found electrical crematoriums well-suited for Hyderabad as they do not cause pollution or eject dust and costs around Rs 500.
The other technologies are costlier as operational costs are more and requires firewood and LPG as fuel for cremating the bodies. Besides there is always that element of danger and disastrous consequences if not handled carefully, GHMC officials said.
