4 cop booked for rape case

Manali, August 05: Manager of a hydro power project and four policemen have been booked for attempting to rape three women of Vashisht village who were offering prayers at the shrine of goddess Jogini on Wednesday evening.

However, the company management has registered a cross FIR against the villagers for assaulting them without reason.

The victims on Wednesday lodged a complaint against manager, Water Miller Power Company, Hari Babu and four policemen for outraging their modesty, tearing off their clothes and attempting to rape them.

On hearing their screams, some women and men, on their way to Jogini fall, rushed to the spot and saved them, they added.

Eyewitness Mani Ram, Sham Lal, Prem Lal, Juri Devi and Naina Devi said when they reached the shrine, manager of the company and four policemen were attempting rape on the women.

“We heard their screams and rushed to the spot and managed to save them. We are thankful to Goddess Jogini that we could reach there on time.”

Even on June 27, 2011 they had lodged a complaint FIR against the company when in the presence of owner; its employees had broken the holy ‘pindees’ and ‘charan padukans’ of Goddess Jogini. Unhappy with police, villagers said they are still awaiting justice.

Kullu-based Water Miller Hydro Company has been allotted a 1MW small hydro power project on the stream of holy Jogni water fall near Vashisht village, which residents have been opposing.

According to Manali deputy superintendent of police Shiv Chaudhary, cross FIR has been lodged in police station and they were investigating the matter.
