4 Cong, 2 TDP candidates elected to Rajya Sabha from AP

Senior Telangana leader Palvai Goverdhan Reddy, APCC General Secretary Rapolu Anand Bhaskar, Former Union Minister Renuka Chowdhary and erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party Chief and actor-turned Politician K Chiranjeevi –all from Congress–were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh today. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) former Home Minister T Devender Goud and businessman C M Ramesh were also elected to the upper house of the Parliament, Returning Officer and Andhra Pradesh Legislature Secretary S Sadaram announced here this afternoon. Only six nominations had been filed in the biennial election to fill up six vacancies from the state and they were declared elected on the expiry of the deadline for withdrawal of nominations today.

The candidates were declared elected unopposed as only six candidates were in the fray in the Rajya Sabha polls which were scheduled on March 30. Since no withdrawal was made, all six candidates were declared unopposed. The Election Commission of India had announced to fill up the six seats from the state due to the retirements of noted film producer and former Union Minister Dasari Naryana Rao, INTUC President G Sanjeeva Reddy, former APCC President K Keshav Rao and Rashid Alivi from Congress Party.
