Hyderabad, May 19: Four officials of the AP State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) were caught receiving a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the CEO of an NGO here Wednesday.
Two other officials were similarly caught by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) personnel across the state.
According to an ACB press release, the APSACS officials, all employees of the blood safety department, had demanded a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from L Laxmi Reddy, CEO of an NGO, to supply Elisa HIV testing kits.
Upon receiving a complaint, ACB personnel set up a trap in the APSACS office situated in the district medical and health sciences campus at Koti Wednesday.
“Gunasekhar, a consultant in the blood saftety department of APSACS, took an ‘advance’ of Rs 1 lakh on the instructions of quality control manager Ravi Kumar when sleuths caught him,” the press release said.
It identified that other two officials arrested as Rajesh and Sreekanth, both posted in the blood safety department.
In another incident, Y Galaiah, a district social welfare officer in Hanmakonda, and K M Chenna Kesava Pillai, a village revenue officer (VRO) of Kuppambadur village in Ramachandrapuram mandal of Chittoor district, fell into the watchdog’s net.
Galaiah was caught while taking a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a person to approve and forward his medical reimbursement bills to the deputy director of the department.
Pillai was trapped while taking a bribe of Rs 2,500 to issue pattadar passbooks to a man.
