4.8 magnitude earthquake jolts Lombok

Lombok: An earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the Lombok region in Indonesia on Wednesday.

The epicentre of the quake was located 78-km east of Mataram in Indonesia. The tremor had a depth of 10-km, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. More details are awaited.

Wednesday’s tremors were felt after Sunda Strait in Indonesia was struck by a deadly tsunami on the night of December 22, as a result of a combination of underwater landslides and an eruption of Krakatoa volcano, that left around 420 people dead and more than thousands injured in the region.

Indonesia has sounded an extreme weather warning till December 27 and has asked the people to beware of lightning, landslides, and floods due to heavy rains and the continued eruption of the volcanic Mount Anak Krakatoa.
