New Delhi, March 13: A whopping 3,800 vehicles ferrying school children were challaned this year for violating traffic regulations, with the maximum number of cases reported in the first fortnight of February.
According to Delhi Police statistics, 1,894 school buses and 1,916 mini-buses ferrying students were prosecuted in the capital this year till February 15 for flouting traffic rules, including violation of Supreme Court directions.
A senior police official said a driver was also arrested in connection with a non-fatal accident.
“A special drive against school vans and buses involved in overloading and unauthorised vehicles plying began on January 31,” a senior police official said.
As many as 1,102 drivers were prosecuted in the national capital on a single day on February one for violating traffic rules while ferrying children to schools. During the first ten days of February, police challaned 2,011 drivers.
