36 killed as bus falls in Purna River in Gujarat

Navsari: At least 36 people were killed and 25 others injured after a State Road Transport Corporation bus fell into Purna River in Gujarat’s Navsari district on Friday.

The bus, which was reportedly overloaded, was on its way to Unai from Navsari when the mishap took place. The bus was full of passengers. Rescue efforts are on.

“As of now, 36 deaths have been confirmed, 25 are admitted and are undergoing treatment. Maximum possible efforts are being taken by respective departments,” District Collector Remya Mohan told ANI.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel expressed her pain over the incident and also announced a relief of Rs. 4 lakh to the families of the deceased.

“Deeply pained to learn about the unfortunate bus accident on Purna River Bridge in Navsari. My prayers are with victims & their families! Have announced Rs 4 lakh financial support to families of the deceased & GOG will bear entire expense for the treatment of those injured,” she said in a series of tweets.
