Hyderabad, September 05: As many as 36 children were hospitalised with symptoms of food poisoning, after they consumed food from a road-side vendor in Miyapur area this morning, officials said.
The children, mostly aged between 3 and 7 years, are from a slum in Miyapur area. They complained of vomitting and giddiness after eating food items like idli and dosa from the vendor. About 15 children also developed convulsions later. Medical and Health Officer (Hyderabad district) Jaya Kumari said medical teams visited the area and shifted the children to the state-run Niloufer and Osmania General Hosptial.
“The children are being provided treatment and the condition of those hospitalised is stable,” she said adding that three children are being given intensive treatment. She added that blood samples and other tests are being conducted on the children, to ascertain, whether it is a case of food-poisoning.
“It would take at least 2-3 days for the children to completely recover,” she said. However, no complaint in this connection has been lodged with the police so far.
