Students of premier institutions such as IIT-Bombay, IIT-Madras, Jadavpur University and Banaras Hindu University also took part in the protests. They were carrying placards against CAA and the proposed pan-India NRC. They also burnt effigies of BJP members and raised slogans decrying the clash between security forces and students at AMU and Jamia on Sunday night.

It must be mentioned that 60 students were injured in clashes with the police at Aligarh Muslim University. A student in AMU lost his right hand on Monday after a tear gas shell fired by police during Sunday night’s clashes burst on his hand.

A major controversy had broken out after police personnel resorted to lathi-charge and firing of tear gas shells to deal with the protests against the new citizenship law in Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

According to Jamia Millia Islamia Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar, as many as 200 people were injured in the incident, of which many were students of the university. She also said the Delhi Police forcibly entered the campus and destroyed the property.
