Dhaka, June 14: Bangladesh’s jails have 1,048 foreign nationals, including 349 Indians, Home Minister Sahara Khatun informed parliament .
The others include 666 Myanmarese, 21 Pakistanis, six Nepalis, three Tanzanian, and one each from Japan, Malaysia and Hungary, who are either convicted or awaiting trial, the minister said.
It wa revealed by the minister while responding to a query of Awami League lawmaker Golam Dastagir Gazi, during the Parliament session.
Sahara Khatun also informed the House that there are 3,671 vacant posts in police department, including one of additional inspector general, five of deputy inspector general (DIG), 10 of police super and 24 of additional police super.
On June 1st 2010 three Indian nationals were arrested for intruding into Bangladesh through Panchagarh border and were sent to jail.
The arrested were identified as Rajan Roy, 50, Shumon Roy, 35, and Manik Roy, 25, of Ghumti Sarkarpara village of Jalpaiguri district in India.
BDR soldiers arrested them from Barashashi border area under Boda Upazila.
