Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali on Thursday informed the Telangana Legislative Assembly that the Telangana State received less than normal rainfall in a majority of mandals.
Furnishing the details, the Deputy CM said that of 459 mandals, as many as 332 recorded deficient rainfall. They include 44 out of 52 mandals in Adilablad; 34 (out of 36) mandals in Nizamabad; 47 (57) mandals in Karimnagar; 36 (46) in Medak; 24 (37) in Ranga Reddy; 20 (64) in Mahabubnagar; 43 (59) in Nalgonda; 39 (51) in Warangal, 29 (out of 41) mandals in Khammam and all 16 mandals of Hyderabad district.
In his reply to a question raised by P Ajay Kumar during Question Hour, Mahmood Ali said a committee has been constituted to scrutinise the reports of Collectors as per existing guidelines and recommend names of mandals to be declared as drought affected. He also assured that all steps would be taken to ensure supply of drinking water, fodder, seed, etc., in the affected mandals. (INN)
