33 percent horizontal reservation in admissions for Women, MANUU decides

Hyderabad: The Maulana Azad National Urdu University, in Hyderabad, has taken a decision to implement 33 percent horizontal reservation for women in admissions.

No university in India, till now, has taken this step. The decision was taken to increase the representation of women in higher education and also empower them educationally.

Currently, the University was following 24 percent reservation for women in admissions. This will be increased to 33 percent in the coming academic year, and later to 40 percent in the academic year 2019-20.

According to the news reported in the Telangana Today, Dr Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, the Vice chancellor of the university told that “The University wants more women to be enrolled in higher education and hence 33 per cent reservation for them will be implemented from the next academic year.”

He further added that “There is 100 per cent accommodation for women on the campus. The university is constructing two more floors in the present women’s hostel.”

Another senior official of the university also told that “The University is providing special training to women appearing for the civil services examination and also for other competitive examinations. Special emphasis is being laid on imparting skills and make them job ready.”
