33 in fray for 9 local body segments

Hyderabad, March 08: Thirty-three candidates are in the fray for the election to the legislative council from nine Local Authorities Constituencies. Polling is slated for March 21. There will be no election to the Hyderabad Local Authority Constituency as the MIM candidate, Syed Aminul Hassan Jafri, has been elected unanimously as the Congress and the TDP did not field their candidates. On the last day of withdrawal of nominations today, 12 candidates withdrew from the fray.

Addressing a press conference here today, State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwarlal said for the Kadapa LAC, five candidates are in the fray, Anantapur (2), Nellore (3), West Godavari, for two LACs, (9), East Godavari (4), Srikakulam (2), Chittoor (5) and Kurnool (3). For 8 LACs, 6,796 persons are eligible to vote at 27 polling stations to be set up at the district headquarters. Forty-four candidates are in the fray for three Graduates’ Constituencies – Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam (19), Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool (11) and Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor (14).

For three Teachers Constituencies 27 candidates are in the fray – Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool (9), Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor (7) and Mahbubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad (11). The elections would be held on March 13 in 1,683 polling stations and 5,86,771 were entitled to vote, including 5,44,255 graduates and 42,516 teachers. About 8,000 polling personnel and 1,731 micro observers had been appointed for the smooth conduct of the elections. Nearly 4,300 polling stations had been identified as sensitive and adequate police bandobust would be made for the peaceful conduct of the polls, he said.

Affidavits of all the candidates had been put on the website ceoandhra.nic.in. If anybody found anything misleading in the affidavits submitted by the candidates, they could complain to the election authorities or the district collector for necessary action, Bhanwarlal said.
