31 Muslims among 920 successful candidates of UPSC exams

New Delhi/ Hyderabad, May 12: Muslim students faired extremely well this year as against last year’s performance in civil services exams. A total of 31 Muslims are among the 920 candidates who have cleared the UPSC exams held in November 2010. Tariq secured 35th rank, Mannan Akhtar secured 55th rank whereas Mir Mohammed Ali has secured 59th rank. Rest all are of the ranks above 100. Though the ratio of 920:31 is a meager one with just 3.36% but it is far better when compared to the last year’s performance when only 21 Muslims cleared the exams out of a total of 875 candidates. In 2009, out of 791 selected candidates, 31 were Muslims. Dr. Shah Faisal of Kashmir had topped last year’s UPSC exams.

Out of 920 successful students this year 203 are female candidates while 717 male candidates.

Based on their merit all these successful students would now be recommended for various civil services posts.

Currently the vacant posts for IAS category are 151, while 150 for IPS and 35 posts are vacant for IFS.

The 31 succesful Muslim students are Tariq Thomas, Mannan Akhtar, Mir Mohammed Ali, Danish Ashraf, Mohammad Imran, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Zafar Ajmal Kidwai, Adil Khan, Mohammed Ali Shihab A, Abid Khan, Anam Benish, Posu Babu Alli, Ahtesham Ur Rahman Khan , Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Riyaz Iqbal, Ilyas K P A, Anjum Ara, N Mohammed Ali, Shaikh Aminkhan Yasinkhan, Syed Wasif Haider, Sahil Seth, Mohsina Tabassum, Ovessa Iqbal, Abid Hussain Sadiq, Ahmed Muyeen Farooq, Imran Ahmad Siddiqui, Mohd Yakoob Shekh, Jusuf Kabir Ansari, Mohd Aija, Shiraz Daneshya and Azhar Jamal.
