31 journalists confered Laadli Media Awards

New Delhi, March 14: Thirty-one journalists from print, web, TV and radio were today confered Laadli Media Awards for their reportage on gender issues.

The awards, set up by NGO Population First, were given for reports under heads of investigative journalism, human interest story, features and articles which promoted gender sensitivity.

Country’s first woman IPS officer Kiran Bedi presented the awards. “What we now need is a TV channel for women, by women and of women,” she said.

She said many women do not know about the provisions of Domestic Violence Act and there was a need for a concerted effort to educate the fairer sex on such issues.

Bedi was also of the view that media should conduct a social audit on the functioning of the government and police.
