Hyderabad, January 29: The number of students awarded the Fair & Lovely Foundation Scholarship in 2010 has gone up to 212 from 183 last year. Among these girls, 31 belong to Andhra Pradesh. These 31 girls got scholarships competing with three lakh applications Fair & Lovely received from all over India. Out of thousands of applications received across the country for Fair and Lovely scholarship, Andhra Pradesh contributed to more than 30 per cent applications with the balance 70 per cent coming from over 23 States from India.
The scholarships are awarded to pursue their dream careers. Scholarships of up to Rs 1 lakh each are offered for any graduate, post graduate and doctorate courses in India. This covers the total cost of education (including tuition fee plus over and above tuition fee incurred by the candidates to complete their courses). Fair & Lovely awards scholarships to women with aptitude, drive and the ambition to carve a place of pride for themselves in society, but do not have the financial strength to realize their dreams.
Some of these girls who got scholarship include S.V. Mobeen Taj, daughter of S V Hussain from Janakarapalli in Chittoor, P D N Geetha, daughter of Duri Apparao of Anakapalle; Tayyaba from Indranagar Hassan Nagar Post; Asma Parveen from Nizamabad; E. Sureka of Basavaraja Kandrigia village in Chittor district; Anjali Vemula from Karimnagar district; Shyamlee Vithanala from Rajahmundry; Irfana Yasmee from Dharmapuri in Karimnagar District; Vani Chappidi of Rajampet in Cuddapah District; Anusha Kondrapu of Moulali in Hyderabad; Farhana Begum of Godavarikani in Adilabad district. This year, the interview-based selections were held in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Indore, and involved an august panel of eminent personalities from various fields.
