300 calls in 3 hrs, Kejriwal’s helpline ringing

Aam Aadmi Party’s anti-corruption helpline, which became operational from this morning, has already received more than 300 calls in the first three hours. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal yesterday announced the helpline number, (011) 27357169, which he said will help the common man combat corruption in Delhi.
“This helpline number makes every citizen of Delhi an anti-corruption inspector. State vigilance department has a team which will look into the matter,” Kejriwal had said at a press conference.

“Trap will be laid and the person will be arrested within 24 hours of your submitting the evidence.”

The primary job of the helpline will be to advise people what to do if a government official asks for a bribe to perform his duty. The helpline will run like a call centre and will operate between 8am and 10pm.

Corruption was the Aam Aadmi Party’s biggest plank in the run-up to the Delhi Assembly elections. A dedicated helpline against graft was one of the priorities in the party’s manifesto.

The AAP was formed in late 2012 after a two-year-long nationwide movement against corruption led by Mr Kejriwal’s former mentor and Gandhian activist Anna Hazare.
