300 birds killed by Chinese Manja

According to reports more than 200 birds killed in Hyderabad and over 100 injured during the two days Sankranthi holidays.With many birds still battling for life, the number of casualties is likely to increase in the next few days. Furious activists called for an immediate ban on Chinese Manja.

Sankranti was celebrated amidst much greatness and pomp; birds were yet again at the receiving end of the festivities as many died by getting entangled by deadly manja (thread smeared with a glue containing tiny pieces of glass).

Mahesh Agarwal, an activist with Sahayog Organisation says, we have written a letter to the prime minister, governor, chief minister and the animal welfare division seeking a ban on Chinese Manja causing a great hurt to bords. Next year, such Manja should not be sold in Telangana.

Many organizations opposed the use of Chinese Manja and called for an immediate stop to this practice. “No festival should be celebrated at the cost of innocent lives, It’s really sad. We will file a PIL to put a stop on this Chinese Manja, .In case the State government do not take this issue seriously, said agarwal.
