30 toilets and 64 ablution chambers of Makkah masjid precarious

The historical Makkah masjid is one among the beautiful architectural masterpieces. The masjid which has a capacity of 12 to 15 thousand devotees at a time is looked after by State Minority Welfare Department. It has 30 toilets and 64 ablution chambers. The royal rulers, be they Qutub Shahi rulers, Moghal Shahi rulers or Asifjahi rulers, left no stone unturned to provide every type of facility in Makkah Masjid.

But since the democratic rule established in Hyderabad, governments started neglecting the historical masjid. As a result the walls of toilets and ablution houses, located at one side of the Masjid, have become precarious. A woman was hurt on December 4 as the wall of a toilet collapsed. 55 year old women resident of Warangal visited Charminar and Makkah Masjid; she was coming out of the toilet of Makkah Masjid after attending call of nature when the middle wall collapsed injuring the woman. Only a 60 year old is employed to look after 30 toilets and 64 ablution chambers. It must be noted that tourists don’t want to miss a visit to Makkah Masjid when they visit Hyderabad. Since there is no public toilet around the masjid tourists use toilets of the masjid.

GHMC should construct Sulabh complexes around the Masjid for public and tourists. Minority welfare Minister Mohammed Ahmedullah should appoint 4 more people to look after the maintenance of masjid toilets and ablution chambers. People who offer salah during Eid, Friday and blessed nights use these toilets and feel bad seeing their miserable condition. Minority Welfare Department should immediately pay attention towards the issue.
