30% Telanganite stranded in Saudi, Mahmood Ali seeks Govt’s help

Hyderabad: Citing hardships faced by Indians in Saudi Arabia, deputy chief minister Mahmood Ali, shot off a letter to Union Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, requesting her immediate intervention, on Wednesday.

In the letter the deputy chief minister has stated that Indians were struggling to get access to food, shelter and clothing. He also wrote that out of nearly 9,000 stranded Indian employees, around 30% of them hail from rural areas of the state.

‘In this regard, this is to bring to your kind notice that the relatives of affected employees in Saudi Arabia are often approaching the Telangana government and insisting to explore the possibilities of taking all necessary measures to bring back the victims,’ reads an excerpt from the letter.

He also requested the Union minister to take immediate notice of the crisis and conduct deliberations with the authorities of both countries to resolve the issue at the earliest.

It may be recalled that during the parliament session on Monday, the Union minister had said that the Indian embassy was running five camps to feed them and she had received hourly inputs till early today.

“Not one worker of ours will go hungry. This is my assurance to the country through parliament. We will bring all of them back to India,” Swaraj had said on Monday.
