Hyderabad, May 20: As per the instructions of chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, chief secretary S V Prasad on Thursday reviewed rabi procurement activities in the state with district collectors and special officers appointed for the purpose.
The officials informed the chief secretary that so far 30 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been purchased from the farmers by the Food Corporation of India, the Civil Supplies Corporation, and Indira Kranthi Patham women groups and rice millers.
In order to overcome the shortage of gunny bags, the state government has permitted supply of EDP plastic bags for the purpose.
The chief secretary directed officials to ensure sufficient supply of gunny bags wherever there is a shortage.
He told joint collectors that rice millers who are not paying the minimum support price to farmers should be dealt with strictly.
The joint collectors have been directed to open as many paddy purchase centres as possible.
