Finance and Civil Supplies Minister, Etela Rajender today said his government was planning to supply low-cost ration items to poor through public distribution system.
Talking to mediapersons at Secretariat here after a Sub Committee meeting on ration cards and supply of rice and other essential commodities to eligible people, Etela said a plan is on cards to provide each poor family with 30 kg rice. It is being planned to implement the scheme after Dasara and the poor may get Rs 3 a kg rice, he said, adding that another meeting will discuss and finalise on actual quantity of the rice and other essentials to be given. He also said the Sub Committee will submit a report to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for approval.
On the nod of the CM, steps will be taken to speedy disbursal of the ration items to the poor, he said. Though there was an idea to give rice free of cost to poor, the committee dealt with the issue, he said. It might be Rs 3-a-kg rice or Rs 5-a-kg to be given among the poor, he said. “We have discussed on the steps to be taken for a fool proof implementation of the scheme”, he added. (NSS)
