Chennai, Jun 14: Five persons were arrested and 30 kg of ephedrine, a drug precursor, worth Rs six crore in the international market were recovered from their possession by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence sleuths here, officials said today.
Acting on a tip-off, DRI officials yesterday intercepted a car and seized the contraband from four persons, who were arrested, a DRI release said.
During interrogation the arrested said they got the drug from a medical shop owner who had brought it from Mumbai.
The man was arrested today at the airport while he was about to board a flight to Ahmedabad, the release said.
The drug was to be packed in small packets and smuggled through carriers to Malaysia, the Philippines and China, it said.
