30 Indians enlisted in drive against dengue fever

Jeddah, July 26: The Ministry of Health and Jeddah Municipality have enlisted 30 volunteers belonging to India to create an awareness against dengue fever in Al-Sharafiah District, home to a large number of Indian expatriates.

The volunteers are contributing in distributing thousands of brochures in the district. They also talk to motorists on the causes for affliction with dengue fever and suggest ways to prevent the disease.

Abdul Ghafoor Azhari, Director of Insect Control at Jeddah Municipality, said the Indian nationals are participating in the campaign voluntarily without any fee.

Azhari said their work began nearly a month ago and they have contributed greatly in enlightening their fellow countrymen about the dangers of dengue fever.

The municipality, he said, may extend the experiment to cover other districts by taking the help of volunteers of different nationalities.
The municipality in collaboration with Jeddah Health Department organized an exhibition titled “Together against dengue fever” through which about 12,000 people were enlightened on the disease by a visual display of specimens of the disease carrying mosquitoes and their stages of development.

Also, awareness brochures in five languages including Hindi, Urdu, Indonesian, English and Arabic were distributed. Sweets and hundreds of awareness gifts like pens, rulers and other items on which the motto of the campaign “Together against dengue fever” was embossed were distributed.
