Akola, November 01: A 25-year-old youth, Sunil Sopan Manwar, was beaten to death by an angry mob for allegedly raping a three-a-and-half-year-old girl in Panchsheel Nagar, near railway station at Washim, some 80km from here on the night of October 29, the police said.
The kid had been residing with her grandparents since her mother deserted her. The kid was playing in the courtyard of her house from where the youth allegedly lured her away with the promise of buying her chocolates. The youth took her to a nearby deserted place where he raped the girl.
The weeping kid returned to her, and her relatives realised she had been raped when they saw her bleeding from her private parts. The girl was shifted to hospital for treatment and the relatives and well wishers searched for the rapist, who was discovered at the railway station.
The youth, Manwar, was badly beaten and attacked with pipes and knives. He was hospitalised at Washim Hospital, from where he was shifted to Akola Hospital but died on the way near Patur Ghat, some 40km from here.
The brother of the deceased has lodged a complaint with the police, who registered a case of murder and arrested Santosh Thorat, Shailesh Pardhe, Hari Thorat and Aashabai. The arrested persons were remanded to police custody till November 4 by a court there. PSI Sonparate is investigating the case.
