New Delhi: A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her stepfather and dumped near a railway station in Bhopal, following which he was arrested, police said on Monday.
Rampal Verma (32), a labourer, has been arrested for abducting and raping his step-daughter on August 30, Government Railway Police’s Bhopal Inspector General (IG) AK Singh told reporters.
The minor was found dumped near a bridge the next day. Singh said that after quizzing 800 people, they zeroed in on Verma.
He said that Verma gave contradictory statements and tried to dodge the police after they got some circumstantial evidence suggesting that he was behind the rape.
The accused has finally admitted his crime, the IG said.
“The minor, who lives with her parents in a slum near a railway station, had gone missing on the night of August 30 night and was found crying near the bridge – Pul Patra – close to railway station under Aishbagh police station area the next morning by people, who alerted the police,” the officer said.
She was admitted to Sultania hospital in a critical condition where the doctors treated her and confirmed that she had been raped.
The accused was booked under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 363 (kidnap) and under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
