Hyderabad, November 08: Three elderly women were relieved of their gold ornaments by miscreants posing as policemen in separate incidents in the city on Sunday. Gold ornaments weighing nearly 15 tola were robbed.
In the first incident at Madhapur, unidentified persons took away more than 10 tola ornaments from a woman. 52-year-old Durga Vani of Miyapur, was on her way to attend a function at a relative’s house at Majidbanda. “The woman got down from a bus at Kothaguda and was waiting for an auto to reach Majidbanda around 11.30 a.m when unidentified persons on a motorcycle approached her posing as policemen,’’ Madhapur police inspector K Srinath Reddy said. The miscreants told Durga Vani that a woman was killed and her gold ornaments robbed in a nearby locality. They, then asked the woman to secure her gold ornaments. As the woman was removing her ornaments, the men volunteered to help the woman. However, after they left, the woman realised she had been duped. Though the woman said that six persons on two motorcycles approached her but police suspect three persons might have duped her.
“There were two other similar cases in other parts of the city and in both cases, three persons reportedly committed the offences. We suspect the same gang might have committed them,’’ the inspector said.
In another incident, a 69-year-old woman, Savitri had gone to an ATM at Shivam Road where she was relieved of four tola gold ornaments by unidentified miscreants. In a third case at Nizampet in KPHB police station limits, 65-year-old Prabhavathi was standing near her house, when three persons approached her and asked to secure her gold bangles. After the woman removed her bangles, the miscreants snatched them and fled away.
