3-meter tsunami seen off NE Japan

Tokyo, March 14: A new three-meter (10 foot) high tsunami has rolled toward the northeast coast of Japan, with authorities warning it would strike within minutes, a report says.

Public broadcaster NHK said around 11:20 a.m. (0220 GMT) that it was expected to reach the coast within 15 minutes.

The sea was seen retreating off Iwate prefecture in the northeast of Honshu island, a phenomenon that occurs before the massive waves hit.
