Two days ago a Nikah ceremony was cancelled at Begumpet just because the bride’s family announced that they failed to fulfil groom’s family’s demand of 10 lakh rupees at the last moment. According to details sanchaq and mehendi function was held a day before the wedding day at a function hall at Banjara Hills. During the function differences arose between the two families following which to end the matter groom’s family demanded 10 lakh rupees cash. As a consequence the wedding was cancelled just before the Nikah. For Valima dinner a famous palace of the city was booked.
In a similar incident occurred a month ago, the marriage ceremony was cancelled just a day before it was scheduled to be, as the groom demanded 25 lakh rupees cash after the invitation cards were sent to the invitees. The worried parents of the bride tried to settle the matter but in vain. It is said that the bride’s father had already spent 18 to 20 lakh rupees on various demands of the groom’s family and other marriage related functions. Notwithstanding that the groom’s family made yet another condition resulting in the cancellation of marriage.
In yet another incident of the kind, a marriage faced similar fate, when worried by the increasing demands of the groom’s parents, bride’s parents decided to cancel the Nikah from their side, which the groom’s parents agreed upon. The bride’s parents were pressurized to maintain standard in the marriage function and also to give assurance that the groom will not face any financial problem in the future.
Muslim scholars and political leaders and respected persons of the community should boycott marriages with extravaganza.
