Chennai, January 26: Three people, including a three-year-old girl, were killed and four sustained injuries when a cement-laden lorry lost control and hit a two-wheeler and an autorickshaw at suburban Avadi last night.
Police said the driver of the lorry lost control of the vehicle after the steering rod broke, resulting in the mishap.
Unable to control the vehicle, the lorry driver hit a two-wheeler in which Sundar (35), an employee of the Ordnance Factory at Avadi, his wife Rathikala (29) and their daughter Ajitha (3) were travelling.
In the impact, Sundar and Ajitha died on the spot, while Rathikala was admitted to hospital.
After knocking down the two-wheeler, the lorry came to a halt after hitting an autorickshaw killing its driver Rahim (23) and injuring three others.
The lorry driver has been taken into custody, police said.
