Mumbai, January 04: Film actor and director Aamir Khan has sought to steer clear of the controversy surrounding the credits for the story of the mega blockbuster 3 Idiots. During his visit to Gandhinagar on Sunday, he denied that the controversy was deliberately raised to jack up box-office collections.
He said his latest movie has broken box office records and there was no point to suggest that the controversy over the story was aimed at boosting earnings.
Author Chetan Bhagat has accused the makers of 3 Idiots of not giving him due credit despite basing the film on his novel Five Point Someone.
“I really don’t know how I will do it,” he said when asked how he would handle the controversy. “This is something that we are very uncomfortable with. Our director Rajkumar Hirani and script writer Abhijat Joshi are handling the issue. From our point of view, they are the spokespersons. They will be the one answering the questions,” Aamir said.
He remained non-committal on whether he would offer a role to Shah Rukh Khan in his proposed film based on the Mahabharat. Aamir said the film will be a long-term project, involving a lot of research and homework. It might take around 20 years to complete, one-fourth of which will go on research, he said.
He said his visit to the city was a sort of thanksgiving to the people of Guajrat and part of fulfilling an old promise to visit City Pulse Film Institute premises. It has nothing to do with the marketing of the movie, he said.
‘Never met Modi’
Aamir Khan refused to give his views on the politics of Chief Minister Narendra Modi when asked if he had any hard feelings for him especially since his movie Fanaa was banned in Gujarat.
“I have not met him and therefore I cannot say anything about him (Modi),” said Aamir.
Fanaa, starring Aamir and Kajol, was not allowed for screening in cinema halls and multiplexes across Gujarat following the actor’s support to social activist Medha Patkar over the Narmada Dam issue.
