3 Held for trying to exchange banned Turkey Currency

The Gopalapuram police of North Zone have nabbed three accused, who are trying to circulate the banned Turkey currency notes and charged under Sections 420, 511 read with 34 IPC.

According to the North Zone deputy commissioner of police, while the principal accused Naveen Kumar was absconding, S. Naresh Kumar, 30, of Shivaji Nagar, Borabanda, Minde Kiran, 37, of Film Nagar, Banjara Hills, Ch. Ratna Prabha, 43, of Maruthi Nagar, Kothapet, have been arrested. The DCP said Naveen Kumar procured banned/expired 100 Turkey currency notes of Rs 5,00,000 with SL. No. K68 404401 to K68 404500 and gave them to S. Naresh Kumar to exchange saying that the currency value was about Rs 10 crore and asked him to give Rs 84 lakh after exchange. Later, Naresh Kumar and his  friend M. Kiran approached Ch. Ratna Prabha, who is running real estate business for exchange of banned foreign currency notes. She readily agreed to exchange the currency for some commission.

 

Later, all the three accused came to Secunderabad Railway Station on Monday morning with Turkey currency to cheat gullible people. However, the police realized their  game plan and apprehended them and seized 100 Turkey currency notes of Rs 5,00,000, a Cellkon cell phone, a Honda Activa from the possession of Naresh Kumar. The police launched manhunt for the absconding Naveen Kumar.

The North Zone DCP has appealed to public not to exchange any foreign currency as well Indian currency of 500 and 1000 from strangers. G. Sateesh, SI, Gopalapuram PS, Raja Sekhar Reddy, SI, and staff of North Zone team nabbed the accused under the supervision of ACP, Mahankali Division and guidance of DCP, North Zone, Secunderabad.
