3 held for robbing Amazon delivery boy

New Delhi: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly robbing Amazon delivery boys at gumpoint in outer Delhi’s Baba Haridas Nagar.

On May 28, the police were informed by a 28-year-old delivery boy employed with the e-commerce giant that he has been robbed at gunpoint.

He told police that he was robbed by five men who took the van in which products for delivery were kept, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) M N Tiwari said.

The stolen van was later found abandoned on a road between Kair and Jharoda villages.

Yesterday, the police were tipped-off that the accused persons were gathering at a place to commit a similar crime.

Hemant alias Laddu, Sunil alias Sunny and Mohit alias Tony were arrested from the outer gate of Anaj Mandi, Najafgarh.

A country-made pistol was also recovered from one of the accused.

Describing their modus operandi, the police said the accused used to steal motorcycles and would then snatch mobile phones while riding stolen motorcycle.

They would then used the snatched mobile phones to place order from Amazon and when the delivery boys from Amazon would arrive, they would rob them.

The accused had CCTV cameras installed at their houses that were connected to their mobile phones to monitor the visitors in their house.

By this way, they would evade their arrest, said the officer, adding they were involved in as many as 14 cases including robberies at gunpoint, snatchings, etc.
