3 held for extorting money from 16-year-old classmate

Mumbai, April 29: The Amboli police booked three youths for allegedly blackmailing and extorting money from their 16-year-old classmate over the past several months. They are now verifying the girl’s claims. Accused Kavish Madan, his brother Karan (both 18 year olds) and their friend Mahesh Devbandi (23) were picked up by the police on Tuesday night.

“We are questioning the accused and they have been booked for extortion,” said Senior Inspector Kailash Ghamande. The accused are residents of Charkop in Kandivli West. “The victim alleged in her complaint that she was being blackmailed by the accused over some obscene photographs of her that they shot. We are verifying her claims and are trying to recover the photographs,” said an officer, requesting anonymity.

The accused family, on the other hand, alleged the victim and her family are trying to frame the boys. While Kavish and Karan are first year students of MMK College, Mahesh owns a garage at Charkop. The Amboli police said, the victim, a first year commerce student at MMK College lodged a complaint against the accused on April 22. “Around 7.30-8 pm, the three accused met Nikita near her residence and told her that they urgently needed money as their friend met with an accident,” said Ghamande. The girl then, sold off her mother’s gold bangles, and gave the money to Mahesh.

The girl was reportedly stealing cash and jewellery from her house to pay them.
