3 empty Narsapur Express bogies gutted

Hyderabad, November 15: Fire broke out on an empty HyderabadNarsapur Express train at the Nampally railway station yard on Sunday evening, damaging three coaches. As the train was parked on the pit line on Platform No. 5 for maintenance much before its journey, it was empty and there was, therefore, no loss of life or injuries. It was scheduled to leave for Narsapur at night. Ruling out sabotage, police said it was an accident. A little after 5 pm, some passengers on the platform and railway staff noticed thick smoke emanating from S12 coach of the train.

The fire services department was alerted by 5.20 pm and the railway police, staff and passengers tried to put out the fire with the use of water pipes which are used to clean coaches at the station. The flames, however, spread to two other coaches.

One fire tender each from Musheerabad, Moghalpura and Secunderabad rushed to the place.

“With access to burning coaches being difficult, firetenders were stationed outside station and with help of hose pipes, fire was brought under control within 40 minutes,” Secunderabad station fire officer K Vijay Kumar said.

Fire services personnel said one coach was damaged completely and two were damaged partially. “The rest of the coaches were detached preventing fire from spreading to them,” he said. The exact cause of the fire and the loss of property is yet to be ascertained .
