3 day Urs of Shah Jahan in Taj from June 16

The Urs of Shah Jahan, who built world famous monument of Taj Mahal in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, will be held here from June 16 to 18. The Urs will take place in Taj premises and the Archaeological Survey of India(ASI) had already started preparations for the event, according to assistant conservator of Taj Mahal Munnawar Ali. The entry of the visitors will be free on those three days and they can see the original graves of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz during Urs period. Elaborate security arrangements are being made while the banners and posters and use of bands and ‘dhols’ will remain prohibited, Mr Ali, also the member of the organising committee said. On the first day of Urs, there will be ‘royal bathing (Gusal), on second day, there will be sandal ritual while on the concluding day, the ‘chadarposhi’ will be done.
