New Delhi: Police today arrested three men for allegedly carrying out a daylight robbery in a jewellery shop in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on June 15.
A group of men, wearing helmets and carrying firearms and sharp-edged weapons, entered Pramod Jain’s jewellery shop and after threatening him, picked up all the jewellery articles on display and fled.
They took away jewellery worth over Rs 65 lakh. While leaving the shop, they also took away Jain’s cell phone.
Analysis of footage obtained from CCTV cameras installed near the shop revealed that there were five accused on two motorcycles. The registration numbers of the motorcycles were also retrieved.
One motorcycle had a registration number of Jyotiba Phule Nagar (Amroha) in western Uttar Pradesh. A team was sent to Amroha and it was found that the registration number plate was forged, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ishwar Singh.
The second motorcycle was found to have been stolen from Jamia Nagar in southeast Delhi on June 11.
A man was nabbed while cleaning the motorcycle in a narrow lane in Jamia Nagar this morning. He was identified as Azeem (26).
He led the police to two other accused — Dilshad Mohammad (26) and Saurabh Verma (24) who were arrested from a house in Shaheen Bagh.
After celebrating Eid, Dilshad and Azeem returned to Delhi and were arrested.
Two firearms with six live cartridges, one sharp-edged weapon, and some gold and diamond jewellery items were recovered from them.
Police said the robbery plan was hatched by Shamshad, a resident of Bijnor.
