3 arrested for forging birth certificates

New Delhi: Three persons, including an IGNOU student, have been arrested here for making forged birth certificates outside the East Delhi Municipal Corporation office, police said on Thursday.

The accused Rajeev Kumar, Anupam and Karan, a student of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), were arrested on Wednesday from Shahdara in east Delhi.

“Residents of south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar, Rajeev Kumar, Anupam and and east Delhi’s Krishna Nagar, Karan, were preparing and printing forged birth certificates of municipal corporation for Rs 1500 to Rs 2000”, said a senior police officer.

“Karan who works as a part time driver, used to lure visitors outside the corporation office on the pretext of making birth certificates. The birth certificates printed by them are on the same format as done by MCD”,the officer said.

“Crime Branch team recovered 15 forged birth certificates of MCD, 20 blank birth certificate performas, a computer, one coloured and one black and white printer used for printing of forged certificates from their possession”,he added.

“The accused are in police custody and efforts are on to ascertain how long this racket was being run by them”,he said.

A victim, a resident of Shahdara, complained to the crime branch on Tuesday about the forged certificates being prepared by a group of people outside the municipal corporation office.
