Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao today said the State government was committed to welfare of the poor and downtrodden sections in the State and the Double Bedroom House scheme was the brainchild of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who promised them to provide permanent shelter with quality, he said, adding that the poor should live with self-respect by getting two bedroom houses from the government free of cost.
KTR laid foundation stone for the construction of 6000 houses under the flagship double bedroom scheme at Rampally here in Medchal Malkajgiri district. Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, MP Malla Reddy, MLA Sudhir Reddy, Mayor B Rammohan, Commissioner Janardhan Reddy and others were present.
Speaking on the occasion, KTR noted that the housing scheme will help the poor get permanent shelter and lead better lives. “Like no other State or Chief Minister in India, our Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has taken such a bold step to provide two bedroom houses free of cost to the poor in Telangana. While the government spends about Rs 8.65 lakh per unit of double bedroom house, it costs around Rs 30 lakh in the open market. This is a great scheme being implemented by the Telangana Government, KTR said.
The MAUD Minister also said only the TRS government was constructing such houses for the poor in the country. It was planned to provide housing facility at an estimated cost of Rs 18,000 crore for constructing 2.65 lakh houses for the poor in the State which includes one lakh houses in the twin cities and the rest in other districts, the minister added.
