The City traffic police have conducted a drive against drunk driving on September 7 and 8 and registered 296 cases against the offenders. The vehicles of drunken drivers — 73 four-wheelers, 214 two-wheelers and nine autos — were detained.
The Hyderabad Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) has stated that drunk drivers have to compulsorily attend the Traffic Training Institutes at Goshamahal and Begumpet and undergo a detailed counselling session, which shows them video films on the results of driving under the influence of alcohol and videos of other traffic violations. An appeal is made to them to avoid drunk driving in future, at least for the sake of their own family.
Those, who attend the counselling have their challans stamped at the Traffic Training Institute, certifying that they have attended the Counselling Session. After the counselling session, the drunk drivers are produced before the Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate B.C. Rayudu who will impose fines from Rs 2,000 up to Rs 3,000 on each violator. After the fine is paid, they have to come back to the concerned Police Station and collect their vehicle. The entire process may take at least three to seven days, he added.
To avoid inconvenience and in view of their own and others’ safety, he appealed to all citizens not to drive under influence of alcohol. Till date, over 9,000 cases against Drunk Driving have been registered by the Hyderabad Traffic Police since the drive was launched 10 months ago, the Additional Commissioner of Police added. (NSS)
