290 new vehicles, to boost 108 services

Aiming to give a boost to the existing 108 ambulance services, the state government recently placed an order to buy new 290 vehicles which will be used for ambulance services. Out of total 290 new vehicles, 210 vehicles will be allotted for normal ambulance services and the 80 will be used for emergency services.

The medical equipment in the current vehicles will also be replaced with GPS trackers to enable online monitoring and the advanced ones, Dr G Srinivasa Rao, special officer for 108 services, Telangana, said. We are expecting the new vehicles to arrive within three months, he added.

According to the MoU between the state government and the GVK (the organising company), the maintenance cost will be increased by eight percent every year, as govt planning to increase the monthly maintenance cost of vehicles from the existing Rs 1.2 lakh per each vehicle to Rs 1.3 lakh.
