Ramanathapuram, February 10: Twenty-nine people, including 22 school children, were injured when a school van collided head-on with a State Road Transport Corporation bus at Pirappanvalasai village near Mandapam, here today.
Police said the van, carrying students — all of them children of Indian Navy personnel — was proceeding to Kendriya Vidyalaya School at Marakkayarpattinam from Uchipuli Naval Air station (Parandhu) when the mishap occurred.
The bus was going to Pamban from Ramanathapuram.
Out of the 29 injured, six were State Corporation bus passengers. All the injured were admitted to the Government Hospital here.
However, the condition of van driver Sekhar, injured seriously, was said to be critical, police added.
