Thiruvantapuram, July 17: As many as 273 women were killed in the state in various incidents of attacks and harassment after the LDF came to power in 2006, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has informed the Assembly on Friday.
While 33,148 cases of harassment towards women were registered during the period, the number of cases of attack on women in public places, including chain-snatching attempts, is 1439, Kodiyeri said in a written reply.
Gold ornaments and other properties worth about Rs 280 Crore were robbed from 10,836 persons during the past four years. The total value of the gold ornaments stolen was Rs 138.08 Crore and that of other properties Rs. 149.2 Crore. Gold ornaments worth Rs 30.05 Crore and Rs 19 Crore in cash were lost in robbery during the period, Kodiyeri said.
