Mumbai: The city police have arrested the 27-year-old suspect from West Bengal in the rape and murder case of a 24-year-old physiotherapist in suburban Vile Parle about two months ago.
The CCTV footage helped the police to get a clear picture of Debashish Dhar who worked at a jewelry making unit. Dhar came to Mumbai seven years ago and went missing from the locality on January 10 after news of the CCTV footage came out. However, Police traced Dhar after more than fifty days. He left for his home in West Bengal after the incident.
Last year on December 6, Dhar raped and strangled the victim. Her body was found in her house in Vile Parle naked with a pair of jeans around her neck. The culprit had tried to burn the body by setting fire books, clothes and some other material in the room.
Senior inspector Lakshman Chavan said.”During the interrogation, he confessed to the crime.”
Dhar was brought to Mumbai and produced before the Andheri metropolitan magistrate’s court on Tuesday.He has been booked under the Indian Penal Code’s sections 452 (house trespass), 376 (rape) and 377 (unnatural offense).He was remanded in police custody for four days.
