Tiruchirapalli, September 30: Twenty seven rare bronze statutes of the 16th and 17th centuries were found missing from the government museum here today, police said.
The theft took place at the building, about 20 metres away from a police station. The museum is housed at the historic Darbar Hall belonging to Rani Mangamma of the period.
The rear side door and its lock were found smashed while the iron rods in the window were removed, police said.
Govindaraj, curator of museums, said value of the stolen articles were yet to be ascertained.
He said as per records, the statues had a height varying from three inches to 20 inches.
