26,000 cops deployed for Ramzan & Ganesh festival

Hyderabad , August 21: The Hyderabad City Police has tightened security by deploying more than 26,000 security personnel for the Ganesh Chaturthi and Ramzan festivals in view of threats from terror groups and Naxals.Adressing a press conference the Hyderabad city Police Commissioner Mr.B.Prasada Rao told media persons that cops would be focussing on the South Zone area in Old city.

Mr.Rao said about 14,000 policemen from Hyderabad besides 12,000 personnel and two companies of RAF from across the state will be deployed as part of security arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of festivals in the city.

He also informed that Hyderabad police had planned a strategic bandobust for the month of Ramzan and parking of vehicles in and around Masjids would not be allowed.

“As the two festivals are coinciding and in view of the prevailing security environment and increased threat from CPI (Maoists) and terrorist organisations, it is imperative to make proper security arrangements during these festivals,” Hyderabad Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao told reporters.

Anti-sabotage measures like vehicle checking and frisking at entry points and public and crowded places have also been intensified, he said.
