The Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway conducted a massive Fortress Check at various major railway stations on its network to curb ticketless/irregular travel and act as a deterrent to commuters travelling unauthorised on various trains.
The main objective of the check, conduced on Sunday, was to curtail any inconvenience to reserved passengers during the Sankranti /Sabarimala yatra seasons as well as to curb ticketless and irregular travel by reserved and unreserved coaches of Express, Passenger and MMTS trains.
During the fortress check, around 150 Ticket Checking staff along with 21 Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of Secunderabad Division were involved to check ticketless and irregular travel by various trains at Secunderabad, Kazipet, Warangal, Khammam and Manchiryal Railway Stations. The Check was conducted under the direct supervision of Shri Ravi P. Padi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Secunderabad Division and other officials. All the exit points at these stations were plugged to prevent ticketless travellers escaping from the check. 80 Express trains, 31 Passenger trains and 34 MMTS trains were thoroughly checked at various stations.
A total of 2627 persons, comprising of 1014 persons travelling without ticket, 1457 persons travelling irregularly and 156 cases of un-booked luggage were detected. An amount of Rs. 14,30,835/- was realised towards penalty and fare during these Fortress Checks. (INN)
