26 parents jailed for allowing minors to drive in Hyderabad in 2 months

Hyderabad: A total of twenty-six parents in the last two months have been sent to jail for allowing their minor children to drive on the road leading to major accidents. The decision has been taken in the wake of increasing number of major accidents that involved minor drivers.

“In April 20 parents were sent to jail by the court and this month 6 parents were sent to jail, so a total of 26 parents were sent to jail in last two months,” Anil Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Traffic Police of Hyderabad told news agency ANI.

A program of counselling sessions and registering of First Information Reports (FIR) has been initiated by the Hyderabad Traffic Police to safeguard and making children as well as parents aware of the consequences, says DC report.

The police had recorded 130 accidents last year that involved minors. Many of the accidents had turned out to be near-fatal and in some cases caused deaths.
