Hyderabad, February 11: If we explore various old localities of our city, we would learn that due to negligence and gullibility of locals, the historical heritage of the city is being stolen very cleverly.
The Shahganj has much significance in the 400 year old history of the city. The area was regarded as the locality of Paigah and Nawab families. 3 big dewdies, Dewdi Moinuddaula, Dewdi Khursheed Jah, Dewdi Iqbaluddaula are located here. Besides these the architectural masterpiece Chaumohalla palace is also near it.
The ancient reflections also include those beautiful posts, antecedent of modern street lights poles, which were installed on the crossroads of the lanes to hang lanterns in order to provide light to the passersby at night. You can find those posts today also. Some of them have sunk into the soil due to construction works.
It is said that anti-social elements after illegally occupying the waqf properties, government lands, Dargahs, graveyards and archeological lands are now eying upon these historical posts. They want to take them away by rooting them out. It is imperative that the locals and officials of archeology department wake up from deep slumber and ensure their protection or else the beautiful historical posts will be covered with the dust of time.
