25-year-old Sikkimese woman raped by AIIMS doctor

A neurosurgeon from AIIMS and two others were arrested for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman, who had been trafficked from Sikkim.

The woman, wife of an armyman from Sikkim, was trafficked by a couple, Suman and Sandip Chhetry, and Dharamvir and Kamal on the pretext of getting her enrolled in a beautician course in the capital.

The incident came to light when she managed to escape her captors and reach Hauz Khas police station. On the basis of a complaint, a raid was conducted and the five people, including Dr Meher Taj (27), were arrested.

In her statement, the woman said she is a resident of Gangtok and her husband is posted in Rajasthan.

She had met Suman, a woman from Sikkim, while shopping in Siliguri. She was promised a job as a beautician in Delhi. On February 20, Suman brought her to Delhi and lodged at a house in Munirka.

The woman said that after two days, Suman took her to a house in Sagarpur promising to introduce her to a beautician. Once they reached the place, she was locked up in a flat. She said at night, Dharamvir and Kamal entered the house and beat and raped her. On Thursday night, she was taken to a flat in Hauz Khas. She was forced into a room with Taj, who then raped her.
